Bloomberg at the University of Aberdeen: developing real-world skills alongside your degree

Business School students benefit from access to the Bloomberg Terminal as part of their studies, offering the opportunity to work with industry-standard data and tools and gain practical experience which is valued by employers.

What is the Bloomberg Terminal?

The Bloomberg Terminal is a software platform used by more than 300,000 banks, corporations, and government agencies around the world. It provides real-time and historical data, market-moving news and analytics to help leading business and financial professional make better informed investment decisions. The service also features execution platforms for every asset class, research and a global network to communicate securely and reliably.

Can non-Business School students access the Bloomberg facilities?

We are pleased to offer all University of Aberdeen students access to our Bloomberg suite, including Bloomberg for Education courses, to develop your practical finance skills. These courses are optional and self-paced, and cover subjects such as finance fundamentals, market concepts, environmental social governance, and Bloomberg spreadsheet analysis.

Although any courses you complete via Bloomberg for Education are not credit bearing, upon completion you will receive a certificate from Bloomberg for Education which you can include on your CV and professional platforms such as LinkedIn.

How can I access the Bloomberg facilities?

Our Bloomberg PCs are located in the Sir Duncan Rice Library, in PC Classroom 3 on the second floor. Our PC classrooms are open during library opening hours and students do not need to book anything ahead of time to use the classroom. Students simply need to bring their student ID card to enter the library.

PC Classroom 3 may be booked on occasion, such as for societies or classes, but these are not frequent and the room is available for student use outside of these times. Students can visit the enquiry desk in the Sir Duncan Rice Library to learn more about booking times.
