Inclusive Practice

Fundamental to the programme is the belief that all learners have the same rights and are of equal worth, irrespective of their current level of attainment, cultural background, race, gender or age. All learners have the right to be educated alongside their peers, and young people's needs are best met through systems of shared responsibility.

The programme aims to help practitioners review and enhance the learning experience of all children and young people, including those with additional support needs. It endeavours to give experienced practitioners the time, opportunity and support to examine existing practice in the light of new research-informed knowledge and insights. It also aims to enable practitioners to build upon the range of experiences and different perspectives found amongst groups of colleagues supporting pupils with additional support needs, in a variety of contexts and settings, by exposing these to sustained discussion and critical appraisal.

A central feature of the course is the use of collaborative enquiry as a tool for creating new knowledge and transforming practice, by synthesising literature, personal and professional reflection and practice.

The MMus in Music capitalises on research strength within the department of music and is intended for composers (vocal, instrumental, or electronic), performers, sonic artists, musicologists (of all kinds studying any genre), music education and community music practitioners with a specific interest in an area of musical study. Our MMus students can design their study by selecting one or two study concentrations from six paths: Community Music, Composition, Music Education, Musicology, Performance, and Sonic Arts. Applicants must confirm in their application which area(s) they wish to specialise in.

Dispute Resolution

Unlike many other programmes on dispute resolution, this programme does not seek to combine a substantive subject with dispute processes; it focusses only on those methods best placed to resolve disputes. It is dedicated to dispute resolution methodology. The non-court dispute resolution industry is vibrant and growing as organisations and individuals seek to resolve their disputes outside the often adversarial, public, slow and expensive litigation process.
The programme is fully online with the exception of Advanced Mediation Practice. Students taking this course require to attend the university in Aberdeen for a three day period in late March. (Find out more in course information ).
