We are passionate about your development – academic and personal – and equipping you with the skills, knowledge and experience to stand out in your field. Your tailored programme ranges from research ethics and integrity to project management, leadership, communication, public engagement, enterprise and impact from research. You will have a personal roadmap for your PhD journey that will allow appropriate development along the way.
We offer a wide range of opportunities including face-to-face training, e-learning, one-to-one advice, competitions and opportunities to put your skills into practice. You’ll have the opportunity to join our community café programme and annual May Festival, enter national competitions and award schemes, take part in European Researchers’ Night and present your research to the wider academic community, and write for the student-led publications Granite Journal and AU magazine.
Courses are designed and taught using the expertise and specialist knowledge of the University of Aberdeen community, complemented by input from external consultants and other stakeholders.
Although the Researcher Development Programme courses are optional, there is, however, some mandratory training which you must complete during your first year of study. View the mandatory training page for more information.
The Researcher Development Programme is mapped to Vitae’s Researcher Development Framework (RDF), the national professional development framework that describes the knowledge, behaviours and attributes of successful researchers.
