We are pleased to announce that, in cooperation with AUSA Swap Shop, the Library’s Green Library Group are organising our second Eco Wardrobe Giveaway event between Monday the 15th and Wednesday the 17th of September in the Sir Duncan Rice Library. Just like last time, we are bringing you a nice selection of second-hand clothes. You can choose whatever you like. Everything is free.
With the event, we would like to highlight the excellent job AUSA Swap Shop is doing for the student community. Also, we would like you to think about the environmental impact of the fashion industry. Each year, this sector produces over 100 billion garments and 87% of them end up in a landfill or an incinerator, with only 1% recycled. Bear in mind that it is in your power to do something for our planet: donate your clothes instead of throwing them out. Or exchange them instead of buying a new one every time you want to refresh your wardrobe. It is as simple as that. And while doing it, you will help save our planet.
AUSA runs a permanent Swap Shop in the Students’ Union Building (on the Ground Floor - just down the corridor beside Subway). It is open from Monday to Friday between 9 am – 5 pm. You are welcome to drop off donations in the donation box and bins. You can also find a smaller Swap Shop at Foresterhill (at Polwarth 2.053). That is only available on Fridays between 12.30 – 2.30 pm, but it welcomes donations any time at its donation point.
To learn more about environmental issues related to the fashion industry and treat yourself with nice second-hand clothes, please visit the Swap Shop’s Eco Wardrobe Giveaway at the SDRL between the 15th and 17th of September. We hope to see many of you there.
