Create a mini mural design for your own home in this artist-led workshop.
About this Workshop
During this relaxed workshop you are invited to explore what is important to you and create a mini mural design for your own home.
The workshop will take place in the Sir Duncan Rice Library and has been inspired by the current exhibition "Aberdeen Art Worlds". The exhibition features the University of Aberdeen's Linklater Collection of paintings which once formed part of a personal art collection that was displayed in a domestic setting.
The artist Carla Angus will work with participants to link ideas of private art and public art, drawing inspiration from the public murals on residential buildings across Aberdeen. You will be using drawing, artist marker pens and layout paper to create personal mini mural designs to take home. The session will involve observation, discussion, idea-generation and evaluation, and will include a walk to the Cruickshank Botanic Garden to see a Nuart mural in situ. Participants are encouraged to bring along two or three images of things that are important to them for inspiration. All other materials will be provided on the day.

About the Workshop leader: Carla Angus
Carla has a research-based practice driven by stories of object, place and people, recontextualising heritage through a contemporary visual art lens. Sitting at the intersection of deep mapping, object biography and materiality, her work is thoughtful and conversational, highlighting connections between things that may be otherwise hidden. These links and stories dictate the medium and materials she uses, and new pieces of work often necessitate learning new skills or collaboration with other creatives or relevant experts. Recent work has been inspired by an inherited sealkin waistcoat, a victorian mansion and a cathedral.
Initially a theatre designer, Carla was co-director of an arts retreat for 15 years with her husband Bryan Angus and also has an extensive background in arts development and creative project management.
