University of Aberdeen Early Music Ensemble takes you on a trip across the European Baroque.
From Venetian canals and palaces in the music of Antonio Vivaldi, through dances written for the English and French Theatre by Henry Purcell and Jean-Baptiste Lully, and a foray into Scotland through the work of Fife-born composer Thomas Erskine, 6th Earl of Kelly. The programme culminates with a substantial orchestra suite by the cosmopolitan German composer Georg Philipp Telemann.
The ensemble brings together bowed strings and harpsichords, performing on period instruments, set up as they would have been played at the time (and including several original 18th-century instruments).
Joining the concert will be the University's Renaissance Recorder Consort, led by Dr Gemma McGregor, playing a selection of music from 16th and 17th century England.
This concert is not to be missed!
