Preparing for Festivals

Preparing for Festivals

This workshop provides staff and students from all three Colleges with background information and advice on creating successful and engaging festival activities. The session is geared in particular towards the University's Annual Festival and the Festival of Social Science. Those whose event has been shortlisted for the University Festival can use this session to gain practical advice on marketing and running their event and considering their audience. Key content includes:-

  • Examining the logistics of taking part in a festival including what is expected of you versus what can be expected of the festival organisers.
  • Exploring key skills for engaging with particular audiences including techniques for improving confidence, manner and accessibility.
  • Looking ahead to the UK Festival of Social Sciences as a template for activity creation and submission.
  • Thinking through evaluation of festival activity at the planning stage, including what you wish to achieve through the activity, both for the presenter(s) and for the intended audience.
