I was delighted to be invited to lead a workshop at this year’s National Medical Student Widening Participation (NMSWP) Conference, held in Glasgow on 24th April 2026. My workshop focused on strategies for preparing for medical school finals while maintaining mental wellbeing, an area I am particularly passionate about!
My session highlighted key study techniques, practical and sustainable revision strategies during placements, and offered first hand insights into managing stress alongside the demands of medical school. It was incredibly rewarding not only to share my own experiences, but also to foster a collaborative and engaging environment where attendees could exchange ideas and learn from one another.
Alongside this, I had the privilege of serving as a conference officer for the second half of this year’s NMSWP Student sub-committee, working alongside a passionate team of medical students to support the planning of the day. The ‘Beyond the Blueprint’ programme featured a diverse range of inspiring speakers and workshops, highlighting both current and emerging research in widening participation. It brought together clinicians and students, creating space for insightful conversations focusing on the future of medicine. I’m excited to see the positive impact of everyone’s upcoming work in the widening participation space, benefiting both aspiring and current medical students!
Overall, this experience has strengthened my insight and enthusiasm to widening participation and has helped me develop valuable skills in designing and delivering workshops, peer teaching, and teamwork. I’m excited to build on these and continue growing my experience in teaching and collaborative working in future opportunities.
