We asked Senior Lecturer in Composition Dr John De Simone how the department might mark his 50th birthday. Humble fellow that he is, we agreed on a day to celebrate composers at the university!

Date: Saturday 9th March 2024

Time: Lliam Paterson - 1-2pm, Spectrum - 7.30-8.15pm, The  Outwith Ensemble - 8.30-9.30pm

Venue: King's Pavilion

Admission: £10 or £3 for students - tickets can be purchased via our online store - University of Aberdeen (abdn.ac.uk) or by cash or card at the door

Pianist (and former Teaching Fellow in Composition) Lliam Paterson kicks things off with a lunchtime performance of student and staff piano works. The evening is a joint concert between the University’s new music ensemble, Spectrum, and the Outwith Ensemble, a new professional ensemble in the North East, performing a programme of De Simone’s work for Saxophone, Piano and String Quartet.
