Join the UoA Symphony Orchestra for their final concert in the beautiful setting of St Machar's Cathedral.

University of Aberdeen Symphony Orchestra

Conductor: Chris Collins

 Nielsen: Helios Overture

Coleridge-Taylor: Ballade

Smetana: From Bohemia’s Woods and Fields

Schumann: Symphony No. 4

The University Symphony Orchestra presents a wonderfully varied programme of music perfect for a spring evening. Inspired by a trip to Greece, Nielsen’s Helios Overture depicts the rise and fall of the sun over the Aegean. Smetana’s From Bohemia’s Woods and Fields celebrates the landscape and folk culture of his home country. The Ballade of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor is a brilliantly scored and energetic work, written in 1895 and far too rarely heard. The concert concludes with Schumann’s orchestral masterpiece, the cyclical Fourth Symphony in D minor.
