About AURA
Aberdeen University Research Archive (AURA) is an open access institutional repository for the University’s research outputs. It is fully integrated with Pure so there is a single workflow for creating a publication and adding the full text.
Publication on AURA will satisfy most funding bodies open access requirements for research outputs. Find more information on how to use Rights Retention to ensure you can deposit your outputs open access in the Research Publication Policy.
Instructions on how to use the repository
Publishing in AURA is not an alternative to traditional publishing but ensures that your research is available to those who do not have subscriptions to scholarly journals or who are not aware of the subject repositories in your field of research - the research outputs published in AURA are available free of charge to anyone who has internet access. AURA also brings together the research output of your College, School and Department ensuring that the University's research has the profile it deserves.
AURA is fully integrated with Pure so there is a single workflow for creating a publication and adding the full text. The only way to add a document to AURA is through Pure. Documents added to Pure will appear in AURA once they have been copyright cleared by the AURA team and the publisher's embargo has passed. The following Pure user guides will help you to add documents to Pure:
-
Adding new content includes guidance on uploading to AURA
How to add content from scratch using predefined templates, or import content from online sources such as WOS and PubMed. -
Adding new content on behalf of others

Pure
Pure is the University's Research Information System. It is fully integrated with AURA so there is a single workflow for creating a publication and adding the full text. It is important in managing research output by:
- Making the upload of full text publications easy
- Displaying data relating to research activity held in other University systems e.g. Research Grant information
- Linking related activities to build up an overview e.g. impact statements to a publication
- Aiding preparation for the Research Excellence Framework (REF)
See the Pure website for details on how to use the system and login.
