Prof Clare Bond

Prof Clare Bond is an Earth Scientist interested in global interactions of Earth processes and people. Her research activities aim to achieve impact on and accelerate our energy transition to net zero. She is a Chief Scientist for the NERC led UKRI Carbon Storage Research Facility scoping study funded by the UKRI infrastructure fund; and a member of CoRWM (Committee on Radioactive Waste Management). She co-directs eRock, an open access resource of virtual outcrop models in conjunction with former PhD student Adam Cawood and the Fold-Thrust Research Group with colleague Rob Butler. She is a Director of Scottish Carbon Capture and Storage (SCCS). For the remaining 40% of her time she focuses on research across a range of topics: including how the crust deforms as a result of natural and anthropogenic processes, investigating uncertainties and human biases in subjective data interpretation and links between society and science. These research areas link to contemporary challenges including; carbon storage, communication of science, understanding and communicating scientific uncertainty, geothermal energy, and radioactive waste disposal.

Prof John Bone

Prof John Bone is a professor of sociology at the University of Aberdeen. His research interests are in global political economy, social change, insecurity, inequalities and (bio)social theory. His work largely involves applying an original theoretical model - fusing social theory with evidence from neuroscience and epigenetics - to explore various ways in which the contemporary trajectory of global development and neoliberal economic policy is affecting individuals and communities in terms of identities, working lives, well-being, political polarisation and social cohesion. He is a former member of the British Academy Strategic Forum for the Social Sciences and past Chair of the British Sociological Association.

Prof Tavis Potts

Prof Tavis Potts is Personal Chair in Sustainable Development and coordinator of the Just Transition Lab at the University of Aberdeen. Professor Potts is interested in how communities and institutions address sustainability, in terms of social acceptance, norms and behaviours; social innovation; governance and politics and challenges around enacting concepts of environmental and energy justice into daily life. His research over the past two decades explores topics such as coastal and marine policy and governance; social attitudes to the environment; the political ecology of energy and applying natural capital concepts and practices to community development. Having worked extensively in Scotland and the UK, North-East Europe, the Polar regions; East Asia and Australia (his home country) he is actively involved in moving between science, policy and civil society and developing participatory initiatives for social inclusion and empowerment around Net Zero and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr Daria Shapovalova

Dr Daria Shapovalova is a senior lecturer in energy law at the University of Aberdeen. She is the co-director of the Aberdeen University Centre for Energy Law and coordinator of the Just Transition Lab. Daria coordinates the Energy LLM theme and leads courses on energy and environmental law. Daria's research is on the climate change and energy law with a focus on just transition. She has published extensively on energy governance, regulation of petroleum production, and climate change law. Daria holds an LLB (National Law Academy of Ukraine, 2012) and an LLM in Public International Law (University of Groningen, 2013) and a PhD in Law (University of Aberdeen, 2017). She gained professional experience in energy consultancy and legal practice. Daria is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is a member of the UK Environmental Law Association, World Commission of Environmental Law, and International Law Association.

Prof Keith Bender

Prof Keith Bender is the SIRE Professor of Economics in the Business School at the University of Aberdeen and is currently its Director of Research. His research focuses on labour economics, extensively publishing on a wide variety of topics including the health impacts of different types of payment contracts and insecurity of work and how well labour markets match skills of workers and skills required by employers. He is currently the PI on an ESRC-funded grant looking at how performance-related pay affects stress as measured by salivary cortisol in economics experiments. He has taught at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level on a variety of topics including labour economics, quantitative methods, the economics of poverty and discrimination and the economics of the employment relationship.

Dr Alfonso Martinez-Felipe

Dr Martinez-Felipe graduated as a Chemical Engineer at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV, 2003), and then pursued a double PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (UPV) and Chemistry (University of Aberdeen) (2010). He also completed the Erasmus Mundus MSc International Master in Materials and Sensors Systems for Environmental Technologies, awarded by both UPV and the University of Bologna (2010).

In 2014 he joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Aberdeen as a teaching fellow, and in 2015 became lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the School of Engineering.

Camilla Seeland

Camilla Seeland is a research assistant at the University of Aberdeen. Currently, she is working on the project ‘The Role of Civil Society in Securing a Just Transition in Aberdeen’. Previously, she completed her MA in Geography and International Relations and MSc in Environmental Partnership Management at the University of Aberdeen. Her research interests lay in Just Transitions, the Circular Economy, Sustainable Food Systems and Sustainable Behaviour. Having worked for an SME after graduating, she aims to proceed her career within academic research field.
