What did you do after you graduated? I graduated with an MA (Hons) in Geography and started to work as a  Graduate Transport Planner – My role primarily consists of preparing reports on technical analysis and findings, such as transport assessments and travel plans. I regularly use specific transport modelling packages which is especially important when working on collaborative masterplanning projects.  Site visits and consultations also play an important role and allow for primary data collection.

What did you enjoy about your Geography degree? I thoroughly enjoyed studying Geography at Aberdeen.  The wide variety of topics covered resulted in a deep knowledge and understanding of the way in which geography influences and has influenced the world around us. I particularly enjoyed discovering and researching elements of the subject which I did not initially think were geographic.

How did your Geography degree from Aberdeen University help you in your career? My degree contributed to my job through related courses but also in the skills I developed throughout. The ability to analyse and examine problems from several viewpoints has helped immensely, and the presentation and writing skills I developed have been incredibly useful too. I have lost count of the number of instances at work where I’ve recognised the influence of my degree in terms of application of theory to working practice.
