This is a past event

Dr. Daniel Sahlén, who is visiting us from the University of Stockholm next week, has kindly offered to give a talk about his research:

“Domestic production of copper objects during the Viking Age: Where it happened and what it tells us about Viking society”

Abstract:

The distinction between specialised and domestic production has been central to archaeological studies of craftworking. Crafts with metals have often been seen as specialised activities linked to stratified societies and socio-economic evolution; for example Viking Age metalworking has often been discussed in the context of urbanisation processes. The presence of minor production contexts has been acknowledged, but rarely discussed in detail. The goal of this presentation is to look at minor production sites in the Viking world and discuss what these can tell us about Viking Age society and craftworking.

Everyone is welcome. The talk will be followed by drinks at the Machar.

Organiser: Dr Karen Milek
