The German Drama Group of the University of Aberdeen presents 'Draußen vor der Tür' / 'The man outside' based on the play by Wolfgang Borchert.

Come and enjoy an evening of theatre with the well-established German Drama Group, that has successfully produced an annual play ever since 1990. The group is formed by a number of students of German and from Germany, who share a common passion for creativity and acting. This year the GDG is performing 'Draußen vor der Tür', a thrilling play with a beautiful poetic language, that is bound to captivate the audience. It depicts the struggle of the soldier Beckmann to integrate into a civil society after returning home from war.Dr Gundula Sharman, German Programme Co-ordinator, said „I am delighted to see that on the occasion of 75 years after the death of Wolfgang Borchert, the German Drama Group will stage his only stage play 'Draußen vor der Tür'. Borchert counts amongst the most important German writers of the post-war period, and his central themes - the devastating effects of war, and a resounding call for peace - are as relevant today as they were in 1947.“
