Chaired by Professor Neva Haites, Vice Principal at the University of Aberdeen, our brand new Cafe Controversial series kicks off with the long-awaited event with Professor Siladitya Bhattacharya, of Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. Genetic biology has advanced so that a child’s gender can be preselected in the test tube. What has made this possible and can we reconcile the ethics with what some parents consider an invaluable right to choose? Come along and discuss the issues. Cafe Controversial features four talks by University of Aberdeen researchers, followed by an audience discussion. Booking is not required and entry is FREE. Refreshments will be available at the Satrosphere Tramsheds Coffee bar. Upcoming events in the Cafe Controversial 2011 Series include the ethics of 'assumed' organ donation and the advancement of techonology and our reliance on it to solve the world's problems.
