The University of Aberdeen Careers Service, in conjunction with the Scottish Institute for Enterprise, is delighted to welcome as part of its Entrepreneurs Series, Dr Martin Gilbert, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Asset Management.

Martin will speak about the founding of this extraordinary company, and his own entrepreneurial journey.

Martin was educated in Aberdeen and holds an MA in Accountancy and an LLB in law from the University of Aberdeen. He divides his time between Aberdeen, where the business has always been headquartered, and London, as well as overseeing the international operations. Since the company was founded, Martin has been instrumental in growing it from a business with initially around £100 million assets under management run from a small office in Aberdeen to one of the largest independent asset managers in Europe.

Martin is a founder of the company and was first appointed a director on 1 July 1983. He is also chairman of FirstGroup plc and Chaucer Holdings PLC. He is a director of Aberdeen Asian Smaller Companies Investment Trust PLC, Aberdeen Asia-Pacific Income Fund, Inc, Aberdeen Asia-Pacific Income Investment Company Limited, Aberdeen Development Capital PLC, Aberdeen Football Club plc, Aberdeen Global Income Fund, Inc and Primary Health Properties PLC.

In July 2009 Martin Gilbert was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws by the University of Aberdeen for services to business and entrepreneurship.

The evening is free of charge but booking is essential.
