SUMMER at the Zoology Museum
-

We're open for the Summer!
The University of Aberdeen's Zoology Museum is open 10am-4pm Monday to Friday throughout the Summer Holidays. A great place to visit with family and friends.

Displays

The displays are worldwide in scope, from starfish to the great whales, and include taxidermy, skeletons, fluid-preserved specimens and models.

Self-guided Activities

Enjoy our fantastic displays and have a go at the self-led activities and trails whilst you are here. Pick up sheets, clipboards and pencils from the University Collections Welcome Desk in the foyer.

Mini Beasts Hide & Seek

Can you find the 12 mini beasts we have hidden in the Museum? Find them all and claim your sticker!

Giant Colouring Wall

This summer we want our visitors to collaborate and colour in a mural of mini beasts! Take a section, colour it in, then ask our Museum Assistant to place your section onto the giant drawing in the Lower Gallery. You will find pencils, pens and colouring sheets on the big table in the Zoology Building foyer.

Book Table

Take a comfy seat and enjoy some animal tales. We have selected some great reading books inspired by our collections.

We hope this summer will be warm and sunny so why not combine your visit to the Zoology Museum with a walk around the beautiful Botanic Garden. Pop outside to take a look at the mural created by KMG specially for the Zoology Building.

You will find fun family garden trail sheets on the University Collections Welcome Desk in the foyer. See which flowers are out and how many birds, bugs and butterflies you can spot!

Large Groups/ Schools

Please let us know you are coming so that we can help make your visit as smooth as possible. We can advise on access and activities.

  • Families & individuals: No notice required.
  • Large groups: If you are planning a visit to the Zoology Museum with a large group of over 10 people, please contact us by email at least 48 hours before your arrival uoacollections@abdn.ac.uk.

Donations

The Zoology Museum is FREE! Cash and Contactless Donations are always welcome and help us carry out some of the many tasks that maintain the Museum displays and make them accessible to all. You will find a contactless donations terminal in the foyer and for spare pennies we have a donations box in the Lower Gallery.

Summer Parking & Access

Building work is currently being carried out in the Zoology Building car park.Until this work is completed, we recommend our visitors use alternative parking on campus.

During the summer holidays, members of the public visiting the museum can park in any of the staff car parks using the parking location code 809204 via the PayByPhone app/website. The rate is the same as staff parking, currently £1.60 per day

This code is only available from 6 July to 14 August. The code will be deactivated before and after these dates.

  • Parking on site before 6 July and after 14 August will be reserved for staff and students.
  • Blue badge holders are welcome to use the disabled bays in the parking lot.
  • Alternative parking for visitors can be found on the Chanonry and Bedford Road (both are pay and display).
  • If you are visiting with a buggy or wheelchair, parking on the Chanonry and entering via Cruickshank Botanic Garden is much easier as it avoids the building works and stairs.

Thank you for your understanding.
