A free public lecture by Professor Aviva Burnstock and hosted by the Royal society of Chemistry.

The talk will introduce methods for the technical study of paintings and painting materials and the application of scientific methods.

Examples will include paintings from The Courtauld Gallery and other galleries where evidence from technical study has provided interesting insights into how the material choices influence the creation of the works, and /or how they have changed since they were made.

Prof Burnstock heads the Department of Art Conservation at the Courtauld Institute, London, and trains Post Grad conservators. You may have seen her as the scientific expert.

This event is open to all and no booking is required.
