An Entrepreneurial Response to the Pandemic

Covid-19 has had a huge impact on all industries across the world. Businesses have had to rapidly adapt their business models to keep their doors open. Figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that the hospitality sector was hit worse than any other sector due to the pandemic. In Aberdeen, our hospitality industry directly employs around 14,000 people.

Stuart McPhee, Director of Siberia Bar & Hotel took an entrepreneurial approach to respond to the challenges the pandemic brought to the hospitality industry.

Watt Hepburn Graphic

In August 2020, Stuart founded Aberdeen Hospitality Together (AHT). AHT was set up by the industry, for the industry with the main objective of working together positively with one voice. The group has 140 members and focuses on collectively overcoming the challenges which threaten the hospitality industry.

Stuart’s entrepreneurial approach has driven innovation within his industry, shown resilience by continuing to introduce new initiatives to make customers and staff feel safe and instilled the importance of collaboration within the city.

The Watt Hepburn Lecture will be hosted by Professor Gary McEwan, Honorary Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Aberdeen.
