Demonstration of Aberdeen Power System Group DC grid.
The Power system group at Aberdeen has built a DC grid demonstrator consisting of 4-converter rated 30kW each. The DC grid has two DC voltage levels: 900V and 200V and uses DC/DC converters to exchange power between these levels. The grid is designed to operate through DC faults and we will demonstrate 900 and 200V DC faults at full power and the fault clearing action by DC/DC converters. The DC grid power control as well as fast power reversal through DC/DC converters will be shown. Some aspects of high-power, high frequency DC/DC converters will be addressed.
Dragan Jovcic obtained a Diploma Engineer degree in Control Engineering from the University of Belgrade, Serbia in 1993 and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Auckland, New Zealand in 1999. He is currently a professor with the University of Aberdeen, Scotland where he has been since 2004. He was a visiting professor at McGill University, Canada in 2008 and a lecturer with University of Ulster in the period 2000-2004. Professor Jovcic is IEEE senior member and a member of CIGRE where he contributes in several working groups on DC grids. He has published around 70 articles and 3 patents. He coordinates Power Systems group at Aberdeen with 12 members and significant externally-funded research program.
