Livingstones Legacy Education and Equality

The conference will bring the year of the David Livingstone bicentenary to a close with a mixture of high profile speakers and interactive workshops to:

• Showcase the range of successful education projects - with a focus on gender equality - established through Scotland-Malawi connections.
• Foster an understanding of the value of education in facilitating equality, with a focus on gender.
• Explore the challenges and opportunities of partnership working across continents and cultures.
• Celebrate Scotland’s unique relationship with Malawi, stretching back to David Livingstone.

Speakers will include:

• Humza Yousaf, Minister for External Affairs and International Development, Scottish Government.
• Hon. Mary Clara Makungwa, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Malawi Government (to be confirmed).
• Hendrina Givah, National Co-ordinator, Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi.

A drinks reception and art exhibition will complement the conference. The exhibition will display winning entries from children and young people in Scotland and Malawi who have entered an open competition to depict David Livingstone and his support for education and/or equality. The artwork will also be displayed at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, from the afternoon of Saturday 8 March until Saturday 15 March.
