This EU Erasmus funded project, with partner universities in Uppsala, Sweden, Vienna, Austria, Aberdeen, Scotland and Olomouc, Czech Republic, aims to increase knowledge about local, national and European strategies and good practice around the inclusion of very young migrants in pre-school education as a means to encourage better opportunities for them and their families in terms of social orientation and inclusion in the host country.

Schools are considered to be a medium for integration, but they present barriers in terms of language and understanding of customs and culture. We suggest that there is an important role for the preschool in supporting families, particularly for mothers, to become familiar with the habits, traditions and way of life in the host country; a possible threshold to better inclusion. We will explore local and national strategies and practices using a case study approach locally alongside data gathered from national longitudinal studies and official sources.
