- Educational Studies (STQ)
The Education Studies (STQ) programme will enable fully qualified teachers in secondary, primary and further education sectors to gain the standard for full GTCS registration. This programme can also be used if you are a teacher qualified outwith Scotland.
The programme is delivered in a flexible way using distance learning, with one on-campus day and four collaborative interactive tutorials per course so that you can fit your study around your work and personal commitments.
The School of Education, in partnership with the Northern Alliance have developed 'into STEM Teaching Energy PGDE' (iSTEP) for those in the oil and gas sector who are looking for a change of career. The scheme, for those made redundant or at risk of redundancy, will enable people to undertake a full time Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in one of the following secondary subject areas; Business Education, Chemistry, Home Economics, Maths and Physics. Students will be sponsored by their Local Authority with a generous support package.
The scheme involves taking up an iSTEP post with one of the Local Authorities. Participants will undertake the full time PGDE Secondary programme which includes campus based learning and placements in school. Simultaneously, and in addition to PGDE, applications will also undertake additional practicum time in a local school (one day per week plus network days) to gain an understanding of teaching and learning in one educational setting across an academic year.

- Distance Learning PGDE
Distance Learning PGDE (DLITE) programmes at University of Aberdeen run in partnership with Local Authorities across Scotland and offer students the chance to achieve a teaching certificate and GTCS registration in a new and flexible way. Teaching is delivered thorugh online learning, face to face workshops, self study, collaborative group work and professional practice on placement.

If your english and maths qualifications are holding you back from applying to become a teacher, you can join our Online Access programme and study SCQF Level 6 English and SCQF Level 5 Maths at your own pace from anywhere in the country.
These courses are designed in accordance with the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework to support access into Higher Educaton and are accredited by University of Aberdeen. For more information please visit our Online Access website.
