The School of Education, in partnership with the Northern Alliance have developed 'into STEM Teaching Energy PGDE' (iSTEP) for those in the oil and gas sector who are looking for a change of career. The scheme, for those made redundant or at risk of redundancy, will enable people to undertake a full time Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in one of the following secondary subject areas; Business Education, Chemistry, Home Economics, Maths and Physics. Students will be sponsored by their Local Authority with a generous support package.
The scheme involves taking up an iSTEP post with one of the Local Authorities. Participants will undertake the full time PGDE Secondary programme which includes campus based learning and placements in school. Simultaneously, and in addition to PGDE, applications will also undertake additional practicum time in a local school (one day per week plus network days) to gain an understanding of teaching and learning in one educational setting across an academic year.
