Saltire Scholarship

Scotland’s Saltire Scholarships is a programme of scholarships offered by the Scottish Government in collaboration with Scottish universities. Our chosen scholars are people who aspire to become influential leaders in their future careers. They have wide ranging interests outside their studies and a desire to broaden their personal and academic experience in Scotland.

Scholarships are available to citizens of the following countries: Canada, China (including Hong Kong), India, Pakistan or USA. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a citizen of Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan and USA. 
  • Have obtained an offer of a place to study full-time at the University of Aberdeen. On-line and distance learning courses are not eligible for funding
  • Preferably have a place on a one-year postgraduate taught masters
  • Have not previously completed undergraduate studies at a Scottish University

 James Blair Scholarship

Description

The James Blair Postgraduate Scholarship offers a £2,000 tuition fee waiver to up to 15 self-funded international students from the United States or Canada, admitted to an eligible full-time, on-campus, Master’s degree programme at the University of Aberdeen.

Eligibility

  1. Scholarship applications are open to students domiciled in the United States or Canada, who are categorised as international students for tuition fees purposes
  2. In addition, applicants must have accepted an offer of admission to one or more of the following full-time, on-campus, Master’s programmes, for entry 2017/18:

Note: Scholarship applicants must have accepted an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional) to an eligible programme before submitting their scholarship application. 

Scholarship applicants will be assess based on their academic record and a short statement of purpose on the following topic:

In 500 words (maximum), explain how your chosen Master’s programme will help you achieve your academic or career goals.

International Undergraduate Scholarship

As part of our commitment to attracting the very best students to join our diverse international community, we are delighted to offer the University of Aberdeen International Undergraduate Scholarship. This scholarship is worth one year’s tuition fee and is open to all international undergraduate students studying for 4 years or more at the University of Aberdeen (excludes Medicine). 

What does this mean?

  • If you are an international student entering into an undergraduate degree programme of at least four years duration we will offer you a scholarship equivalent to the tuition fee for your fourth year (excludes medicine)

Alumni Discount (returning Visiting Students)

Alumni of the University of Aberdeen, including former Study Abroad and Exchange students, who return to pursue a Postgraduate programme, are eligible for the Aberdeen Alumni Discount:

  • 20% discount on one year of Postgraduate study. Applies to to all taught Masters programmes or first year of PhD Study

Findlay Walker American Scholarship (Undergraduate)

If you are a smart, talented American student looking to study at the University of Aberdeen, we’d like to help you take your first step towards an incredible educational journey. In honor of Dr J Findlay Walker (MBChB 1967), the Findlay Walker Scholarship Program will award scholarships of $2,000 towards tuition/fees for the first year of study to two students who:

  • demonstrate outstanding academic ability and exceptional talent
  • are US citizens or US residents
  • are liable to full, international tuition/fees
  • are applying for admission to an undergraduate degree program

All US citizens or residents who apply for an undergraduate place at the University of Aberdeen via UCAS or the CommonApp no later than 30 December 2015 will automatically be considered.

Federal Aid

With the exception of the MBChB Medicine, Nursing, Certificate and Diploma programmes all other full and part-time programmes are eligible for Federal Direct, Parent Plus and Graduate PLUS loans. Children of Alumni Scholarship (USA)

The University of Aberdeen is offering up to 30 scholarships to the children of alumni from Malaysia, Singapore, and the United States of America this year. The scholarships apply to eligible students admitted to postgraduate taught programmes for the 2015/16 academic year.

Applicants whose parents studied at the University of Aberdeen and who had a home domicile of Malaysia, Singapore or the USA at the time of their study are eligible for the scholarship. Successful applicants to the scholarship scheme will have their tuition fees reduced by 20%.

Clan Donald Educational and Charitable Trust

The Clan Donald Educational and Charitable Trust was created to foster and improve the good relationship between Scotland and the United States.  Each year the Trust offers a $5000 scholarship for graduate study at a Scottish University of the applicants choice. Scholarship recipients must be US citizens.

Crockett Scholarship for University Study in Scotland

The James E Crockett Educational and Charitable Trust offer a scholarship of $5,000.00 for graduate study during the next academic year at one of the following universities: University of Aberdeen, University of St Andrews, University of Edinburgh or University of Glasgow.

Fulbright (Postgraduate)

The Fulbright Awards Programme offers a wide range of study abroad opportunities to US citizens to study for a graduate degree in the UK.

Marshall (Postgraduate)

Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a graduate degree in the United Kingdom.

R Harper Brown Memorial Scholarship (Undergraduate)

The Chicago Scots sponsor this scholarship program to assist in defraying the cost of an American student's study at a university in Scotland. Students must be least a graduating senior in high school with an acceptance and intention to attend university in Scotland or a student at an accredited American college or university looking for a study abroad experience.

Saint Andrew’s Society (New York State)

The Saint Andrew's Society of the State of New York provides funding for two Scottish graduate students to study in the United States and two American students of Scottish heritage to study in Scotland.

Saint Andrew’s Society (Washington DC)

The Saint Andrew's Society of Washington DC's Washington Scots Charity & Education Fund Scholarship Program awards grants to Scottish and American scholars in need of financial support.

In honor of Dr J Findlay Walker (MBChB 1967), the Findlay Walker Scholarship Program will award scholarships of 2,000Dollars towards tuition/fees for the first year of study to two students.


James Main Prize in Engineering

There is one James Main Prize available. This is part of the University of Aberdeen Engineering Scholarships Programme.

Robertson Scholarship for Engineering

The Robertson Scholarship for Engineering was established by the bequest of the late David Robertson who graduated in Engineering from the University of Aberdeen in 1932. He wished to benefit future generations of Engineering students. There is one scholarship available. This is part of the University of Aberdeen Engineering Scholarships Programme.

There is one James Carnegie Scholarship available. The scholarship will provide £2,000 per annum towards the students' maintenance costs for the duration of the postgraduate degree course, whether that is a one year Masters, PhD (3 years) or Master by Research leading to a PhD (4 years).

The Trust exists to assist distinguished Aberdeen University graduates, preferably with Honours, and preferably in Arts, which failing, in Science, to continue their studies in Arts or in any other branches of higher learning at any institution outside Scotland.

Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds Foundation for Basic Research in Medicine offers studentships to outstanding young scientists who wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project of approximately three years in basic biomedical research in an internationally leading laboratory.
