Welcome to the University of Aberdeen. Founded in 1495, Aberdeen in one of the Ancient Universities of Great Britain and has a proud history of scholarship dating back over 525 years.

We have a long history of close educational links with North America, and welcome an increasing number of Canadian students to our beautiful campus each year. Some of our most famous graduates who have made a significant impact in North America include:

  • Bertha Wrenham Wilson, Canadian jurist and the first female Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada
  • Bruce Allan Clark, prominent Canadian lawyer and indigenous tribes activist
  • James Blair (1656-1743), founder and first President of the College of William and Mary in the USA
  • The Hon A Gail Prudenti, Chief Administrative Judge of the Courts of New York State
  • William Smith (1727-1803), the first Provost of the University of Pennsylvania
  • Dr William Thornton (1759 – 1828) the architect who designed the United States Capitol in Washington DC


Aberdeen is a recognised centre of excellence in areas including the Humanities, Divinity, Law, Energy, Environmental Studies and the Life Sciences. Our most popular programmes amongst Canadian students are Law, Medicine, Divinity, Anthropology and Engineering.

School of Law

The School of Law has recently launched a new 2 year accelerated option for graduate students wishing to obtain an LLB with English Law. This programme is ideally suited to Canadian graduate students looking to obtain a recognised Law degree. [find out more]
