Hannah Burrows

Dr Hannah Burrows (PhD [York]) is Lecturer in Scandinavian Studies. Hannah works on early Scandinavian literature, culture and society. Her current research examines the language used in Old Norse poetry to express ideas about the natural world and humanity's relationship with it. Hannah is Bibliography Editor for the Skaldic Poetry of the Scandinavian Middle Ages project, and has edited the poetry from Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks. She has also published on literary-legal connections in medieval Iceland, riddles, Norse mythology, and translation.

Ralph O'Connor

Professor Ralph O’Connor (PhD [Cambridge]) is Professor in the Literature and Culture of Britain, Ireland and Iceland. He teaches in the departments of Celtic & Anglo-Saxon, History, and English. His Nordic research focuses chiefly on the Sagas of Icelanders, legendary sagas and chivalric sagas, including comparisons with medieval Irish literature; but he welcomes enquiries about graduate research in any aspect of Norse-Icelandic literature. He is the author of Icelandic Histories and Romances (2002) and The Destruction of Da Derga’s Hostel (2013), and is currently completing a monograph on the rise of fiction in mediaeval and modern Icelandic saga-writing, funded by a 2-year Leverhulme Research Fellowship. His other interests include amorous stepmothers and going berserk.

Anna Bokedal

Mrs Anna Bokedal (Lic Eng [Gothenburg], FHEA) is Lecturer in Swedish. She joined the University of Aberdeen in 2011, having previously worked with research both in University and private industry in Sweden. Anna teaches four courses in modern Swedish for beginners (Swedish 1-4) and also co-ordinates a reading group in Swedish. Her classes are largely interactive and incorporate informal cultural aspects beside formal language studies. Since 2010, Anna writes a column in Göteborgsposten, one of Sweden's major daily newspapers.

Sally Garden

Dr Sally Garden (Affiliate) (PhD [Edinburgh]) - mezzo-soprano and musicologist performing under the banner ‘Mons Graupius’. Her portfolio covers international collaborations, festival appearances, concert promotion, publishing, editing, recording, new media work, and composition. She was also formerly Historical Musician in Residence 2003-06 at the Wighton Heritage Centre, Dundee. Her research interests include music and nation-building in Scotland and Scandinavia, lyric art and linguistic identity in the northern world, and all aspects of Scottish and Scandinavian art song. Sally is also Honorary Secretary of the Norwegian Scottish Association, Edinburgh.
