Belgian Battlefields Tour

Belgian Battlefields Tour
-

This is a past event

Organised by our Brussels Alumni Chapter, we would like to invite alumni to join our day trip on Saturday 14 October to explore World War One Belgian battlefields, monuments and museums alongside University of Aberdeen Professor and Historian Tom Weber.

Professor Weber has written a number of best-selling and critically acclaimed books and is internationally renowned for his research and knowledge of Hitler and Nazi Germany.

Beginning in Brussels at 9am, this unique event will touch upon the journey of the Gordon Highlanders, a battalion local to Aberdeen, and will include insights into Professor Weber’s own research into the hidden history of WW1 as well as ‘Hitler’s First War’.

Stops on the tour include Tyne Cot Cemetery, Essex Farm, In Flanders Fields Museum and Mesen.  There will also be additional stops in Ypres for both lunch, dinner and the Last Post. Dinner and the Last Post will be optional and can be confirmed when registering. We estimate that the bus will arrive back in Brussels at 10pm.

The trip will begin and end in Brussels however, should it be easier for you to reach the first stop and join from there, you are welcome to do so. If you will be joining at Tyne Cot Cemetery please let us know by emailing alumni@abdn.ac.uk and we can confirm the arrangements with you.

Tickets for this trip cost £37 (43 euros) and include the bus hire costs and the entrance fee to the In Flanders Museum. Lunch and dinner will be additional to this and will be covered by the attendee. The ticket cost will also remain the same regardless of whether you will be joining from Brussels or not.

We hope that you will be able to join us for this unique tour which will allow you to connect with fellow alumni and learn more about European history during World War One!

If you have any issues making this payment please email alumni@abdn.ac.uk.
