Primary services provided by the University proxy are now managed by our new firewall.
What is happening to the existing proxy service?
We will be retiring the existing proxy service and we are currently working to facilitate this.
How does this affect me now?
Personal devices - On campus
To access the internet or electronic resources such as e-journals on our wireless networks eduroam and resnet:
- You no longer need to configure your web browser to use the proxy service.
- See our fact sheet for guidance on removing the proxy settings.
To access University resources such as MyHR or network filespace:
- You must use the VPN.
Personal devices - Off campus
In order to access electronic resources such as some e-journals and e-books:
- You will still need to configure your web browser to use the proxy service.
- See our fact sheet for guidance on configuring proxy settings.
Note: Many electronic resources can be accessed without setting the proxy. These typically ask you to authenticate using Shibboleth.
To access University resources such as MyHR or network filespace:
- You must use the VPN.
University owned and managed devices
If your device has been set up by IT Services (e.g. Desktop PCs, Classroom PCs, University owned and managed Windows laptops) it has a centrally managed proxy service configuration.
You do not need to make changes to this configuration.
