Biography

Dr Henry Tan is a Senior Lecturer in Safety and Reliability Engineering at the University of Aberdeen. He graduated from Tsinghua University, which US News & World Report ranked #1 of the Best Global Universities for Engineering. Dr Tan publishes scientific findings in top research journals, such as Physical Review Letters, Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, and Safety Science.

Dr Tan is a Chair Professor at Wuhan University. He is also the Chairman of the International Symposiums on Energy Challenges and Mechanics, a series that facilitates the multidisciplinary study of energy solutions from an international perspective, and the International Symposium on Quantum Science and Technology.

Dr. Tan was a Guest Professor at the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Zhejiang University, China (2008-2012), Invited Lecturer of the International Center for Mechanical Sciences (CISM), Italy (2009).

Before joining Aberdeen, he was a Lecturer at the University of Manchester, England (2007-2009); a Research Scientist of the Center for Simulation of Advanced Rockets, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA (2003-2007); a Guest Professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China (2004-2006); a Visiting Assistant Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Louisiana State University, USA (2001-2003); a Research Assistant Professor of the Center for the Simulation of Accidental Fires and Explosions, University of Utah, USA (1998-2001); and a Postdoctoral Research Associate (1997) of the School of Engineering, Brown University.
