Abstract
This article explores the joy that emerges from creative connection, drawing upon the lived experience of those involved in making a film to celebrate a school centenary. The perspectives of those involved are testaments to the contagious delight that is a key feature of joy. Unlike happiness, which is associated with notions of personal fulfilment and individual achievement, joy is all about the generative and regenerative power of connection. We explore how young people’s involvement in a film-making project constitutes a form of eudaimonia, exemplifying social and educational values that are oriented to the present as well as the future.
