Abstract

The work-based project is the stage of the Chartered Teacher (CT) Programme where teachers become researchers of their own practice. This has been an exciting time not just for the pioneering group of teachers who are at this point but also for us as tutors. Seeing the range of projects and the enthusiasm, grit and sheer determination of these teachers as they have grappled with their research has been inspiring.
The work-based project is a four-module equivalent of the MEd thesis undertaken either as a single piece of research (which can be presented in two parts as a linked project) or two smaller pieces. The linked project, in which teachers undertake a two-module planning task followed by a two-module implementation and evaluation, has been the preferred route for most of our participants.
So far, four have completed the work and gained their degrees as Masters of Education. We asked these four to reflect on their experiences of doing the project. This is their story.
