We were delighted to welcome our Mindfulness Intervention Consultant, Niamh Bruce, to our partner intervention school in Musanze and Burera, Rwanda.
This special visit marked a meaningful follow-up after last year’s successful delivery of the Mindfulness Intervention Champions programme. Having trained champions within the school community, this return visit provided an opportunity to strengthen ongoing activities, offer additional guidance, and reconnect with the incredible students and teachers who continue to embed mindfulness into their daily routines.
Supporting Ongoing Activities
During her visit, Niamh worked closely with teachers and students to support the continued implementation of mindfulness practices in classrooms and across the school environment. It was inspiring to see how the champions have taken ownership of the programme — creating calm spaces, leading breathing exercises, and nurturing a culture of awareness, focus, and emotional wellbeing.
The Intervention Garden: Growing Mindfulness
One of the highlights of the visit was the school’s beautiful intervention garden. Students and teachers are collaboratively planting flowers and plants, creating a peaceful green space that reflects the principles of mindfulness — patience, care, growth, and connection.
The garden has become more than just a planting project. It is a living symbol of the school’s commitment to wellbeing. As students nurture the plants, they are also nurturing resilience, responsibility, and teamwork.
Reconnecting with the School Community
It was heartwarming for Niamh to reconnect with both students and staff who participated in last year’s programme. Seeing the confidence of the Mindfulness Champions and the positive impact on the wider school community highlights the lasting value of the intervention.
We are incredibly proud of the dedication shown by the school leadership, teachers, and students in Musanze and Burera. Their commitment demonstrates how mindfulness can create supportive learning environments where young people can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We look forward to continuing this important partnership and supporting the ongoing growth of mindfulness practices in Rwanda.
