The School of Education offers a range of undergraduate programmes in Education and Music both for students wishing to embark on a teaching career, and for those seeking professional learning and development opportunities.
Our programmes take account of national policies and priorities and lead the way in innovative pedagogies involving technology-enhanced learning in Scotland.
Our initial teacher education (ITE) programmes are:
- MA(Honours) Education
- Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
- BMus with Honours (Education)
Our ITE Programme were reaccredited by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in June 2013. Both the MA(Honours) Education and the PGDE, provide students with the opportunity to study for masters level credits (SCQF 11), in addition to their undergraduate studies.
Following on from our initial teacher education provision our BA programmes provide professional learning and development opportunities for those involved in professional fields of work associated with:
- further education
- adult education
- community education
- young people and families
- family therapy
- out of school care
- nursery provision
- childcare and protection
These are flexible programmes aimed at those in employment and are offered on a part-time, on-line basis.
The BA in Childhood Practice is fully validated by the Scottish Social Services Council.
