Cromarty

Cromarty

The Lighthouse Field Station is based in the old Cromarty Lighthouse buildings on Cromarty's harbour front. Situated at the tip of the Black Isle, Cromarty was built on fishing and trading links with Europe.

Its location in the centre of the Moray Firth provides an ideal location for research and training in marine ecology and resource management.

The Field Station was established in 1990 with the dual aim of supporting research within the School of Biological Sciences and integrating this work into the School’s teaching and outreach activities.

Our research aims to understand how natural and man-made environmental changes influence the behaviour and population dynamics of marine mammals and seabirds.
