Open Day Travel Bursary 2026

The UK Team are proud to announce a travel bursary to widening access students who are attending one of our upcoming 2026 Open Days.

How to apply for a Open Day Travel Bursary

  1. Complete the Travel Bursary application form below
  2. If successful, you will receive a confirmation email with a claim form
  3. Complete the claim form and include any receipts (e-receipts are accepted) and email these to travelbursaries@abdn.ac.uk prior to your visit
  4. Receive the bursary (Exact amount will be up paid up to the value of £100) within 3 weeks of attending your visit.

Eligibility criteria

Please Note: This Widening Access travel bursary of £150 is available to support the cost of travel and accommodation for one student and one guest to attend the University of Aberdeen Open Day on Tuesday 25th August 2026 or Saturday 3rd October 2026.

  • Ordinarily resident in a POLAR 4 Quintile 1 postcode area
  • Receiving Free School Meals
  • Care experienced
  • Estranged from parents
  • Unpaid carers
  • Have experienced a disability or mental health issue that has impacted on your secondary education
  • Identify as Gypsy, Roma or Traveller
  • Have Refugee or Asylum Seeker Status
  • Have a parent or carer in the Armed Forces
  • Have served in the Armed Forces
  • Parent(s) have had a custodial sentence

The bursary will be paid in pounds sterling. The bursary is paid by bank transfer after you have attended Open Day and submitted the required paperwork to the University of Aberdeen. Travel bursaries are normally paid within 28 days of the event but can take longer depending on workload. 

If you are approved to receive the bursary, the payment request form will be emailed to you in advance. There are a limited number of bursaries available so please apply as soon as you can. Applications will close once all the bursaries are awarded or on 25th September, whichever comes soonest.

Only those who meet our Widening Access criteria below and are classed as “Rest of UK (RUK)” — domiciled in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands — are eligible:
