In many cases, in place of a formal English test such as IELTS, Nigerian students can submit a letter from their University confirming that they were taught in English or a copy of their WAEC Year XII English score (provided the exam was taken less than 10 years ago and the score was at least C6.).

Undergraduate - West African Senior Secondary School Certificate

Students who have achieved at least one “A” and two “Bs” in the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate can apply for direct entry to Year 1 for all programmes except Medicine. Some Programmes also have individual subject requirements -

Science: English, Maths and Science OR
                English and 2 x science subjects.

Law, Arts and Social Sciences : English

Engineering: English, Maths and Physics (Chemistry also required for Chemical and Petroleum Engineering)

Medicine: GCE A-levels, International Baccalaureate or Scottish Highers required.

Students who are not eligible to apply for direct entry to Year 1 can apply for our Foundation Course which is offered on campus in our International Study Centre.

Please note that in many cases applicants from Nigeria do not need to provide IELTS results to prove their English proficiency provided that they achieve a C6 or better in either the WAEC or the NECO or if they can provide a letter from their former university stating that their degree was taught in English.
