French & Francophone Studies

French at Aberdeen offers broad, flexible and diverse programmes covering language, literature, history and culture, researching topics from the Middle Ages to the present day, and the Caribbean to North Africa. You will benefit from language courses being taught in small groups, with oral classes led by native speakers. Honours programmes include periods abroad, either studying at one of our partner institutions (such as Lyon, Rennes, Réunion, Brussels and Geneva) or working as a language assistant or on a placement (for instance with the Institute of French Petroleum School in Paris). French offers four- or five-year programmes, with many subject combinations for which a major European language adds an advantage in today’s world.
