On August 23, as part of the the run up to the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics, Brian Brock and Saqib Shaikh were invited to discuss, “Technology, Disabilities and Ethics”. This live discussion past part of the Dare To Overcome conference hosted by the Global Business Peace Award Program in Tokyo. Shaikh, who is blind, works at Microsoft, as Software Engineering Manager and Project Lead on the Seeing AI. Seeing AI is a smartphone app that reads not only written materials but also describes visual scenes, and offering much more freedom and autonomy to people with visual impairments.

Shaikh's story of his journey as a blind computer programmer at Microsoft revealed the continuing need for greater social inclusion in the work world for people with disabilities. Brock and Saquib discussed both he great promise as well as the potential perils of Artificial Intelligence technologies for people with disabilities.
