Aspire North Development Worker, External Relations
ASPIRENorth delivers the Schools for Higher Education Programme (SHEP) as a part of the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council (SFC) funded National Schools Programme. It works with young people in secondary schools to (a) raise awareness of post-school education opportunities and (b) raise aspirations to participate in these opportunities. The main focus of activity is on pupils in those secondary schools with the lowest rate of progression into higher education. Additionally, the programme works where appropriate with teachers, parents, carers and relevant community groups. The programme covers the whole of the North of Scotland. A vacancy has arisen for a part-time Development Worker (maternity cover) to support the work of the ASPIRENorth Grampian office as a part of the Schools for Higher Education Programme.
Senior Project Manager, Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Project Manager to join the team in the development of a GP teaching Hub in Aberdeen. The NHS has a workforce crisis. In 2022 the Scottish Government funded increased numbers of student places in all medical schools and postgraduate medical programmes. Capacity for teaching places has been stretched as a result and from 2026/2027 we will not have enough GP practice placements to accommodate our senior years medical students. (250 students in 5th year currently, 340 expected in 2026/27)
Research Fellow, Biological Sciences
The Scottish Fish Immunology Research Centre (SFIRC), within the School of Biological Sciences, undertakes fundamental and applied research to enhance current knowledge of fish physiology. We focus on immunology, new or improved therapeutic approaches to combat fish disease, and nutrition research to improve fish health and welfare. Working closely with the aquaculture industry, a key area of our focus is on the molecular and functional underpinnings of immune modulation in Atlantic salmon, particularly during the parr-smolt transformation. To better understand how light throughout production influences fish performance, the advertised position will investigate how photoperiodic entrainment influences the immune response and disease resilience of farmed Atlantic salmon. The work will involve fish trials using state-of-the-art aquarium facilities within the school and functional genomic approaches, including use of a recently established high throughput immune gene expression profiling (fluidigm) platform.
