Founder of The Big Issue to discuss leadership at University event

Members of the public will hear from the founder of the world's most successful street magazine and social enterprise at an event at the University of Aberdeen tonight (Wednesday, November 13).

John Bird MBE, who is the driving force behind The Big Issue, will discuss leadership, drive, motivation and how to learn from your mistakes at the event which will be held in King’s Conference Centre, Old Aberdeen.

John has had a fascinating life having been born into poverty and brought up in care. His life’s journey has included spells as a thief, prison inmate, artist and poet. Now an established iconoclast, activist and publisher, he is an inspirational business leader with an outstanding record of using business as a tool for social change.

The lecture, which forms part of the Watt Hepburn series, will take place at 6pm. The event is free to attend but places should be booked by visiting http://www.abdn.ac.uk/events/4119/

The event will be hosted by the University of Aberdeen’s Business School.

Professor Roger Buckland, Head of the Business School, said: “The Business School is absolutely delighted to welcome John Bird MBE to the University.

“John has led a fascinating life and is a real inspiration for many having founded The Big Issue which helps so many homeless people.

“I am sure everyone who attends the lecture will find the event not only extremely inspiring and informative but also very entertaining.”
