The Tall Ships Festival, billed as Europe's largest free family event, took place in Aberdeen between 19-22 July with nearly 50 Tall Ships signed up from South America, the Middle East and Europe, creating a dazzling parade of sail.
As part of the programme of events, the university took part in the Discovery Zone located at the Castlegate, right next to the main entrance to the harbour, where research groups engaged with visitors to the Festival, in particular children and their families, with fun, interactive, hands-on activities.
You can see some pictures of the Aberlangs stand in the Festival’s Discovery Zone on the right hand side of this article – the stand allowed visitors to find out more about Seaspeak, to try their hand at morse code, and to discover how our local Doric is related to the languages of our North Sea neighbours, amongst many other activities showcasing multilingualism in the region.
