We are excited to launch the Environmental Arts and Humanities Research Centre Works-in-Progress seminar series for the 2026-27 academic year, which will give members and anyone else interested a chance to share projects under development and receive feedback from colleagues.
In this first session, on Wednesday 14 October, 4-6pm, Dr Jo Hicks (Music, U of Aberdeen) will present on Peter Handford’s “steamscapes” and how his sound recordings of steam (and coal) power illuminate mid‑twentieth‑century British attitudes to energy, memory, place, and identity. Co-Director of the Environmental Arts and Humanities Research Centre Dr Jesse Barker (Spanish, U of Aberdeen) will then give an overview of his monograph project, Spanish Ecocinema 1928–2025, tracing how Spanish film has engaged with environmental crisis across different historical periods and genres. This will take place in the Interdisciplinary Lounge, Crombie Halls. It will be a social event, with refreshments provided, so please do mark it in your calendar.
