The Centre for Multilingual Research is delighted to invite students and staff to a special panel discussion on Wednesday, 12th March at 2.30pm, Taylor A19.

This roundtable will bring together experts in literary translation to explore the creative and critical dimensions of translating literature across languages and cultures. The discussion will cover various aspects of literary translation, with a special focus on the challenges and nuances of translating poetry.

The session will open with a moderated discussion, providing insights into the complexities of literary translation, including the challenges of translating poetry. This will be followed by a series of short literary readings in French, Gaelic, Italian, and Spanish, accompanied by English translations. The event will conclude with a visit to the Library’s Special Collections at 4.15pm where Prof. Lumsden will deliver a talk on Walter Scott in Translation. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the exhibition.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students, researchers, and staff to engage with the art of translation and reflect on its role in shaping literary traditions across languages.

We look forward to seeing you there.
