Please, join us to celebrate Earth Day together! On Earth Day (22nd of April), people around the world unite behind environmental issues to take climate actions. In cooperation with AUSA Swap Shop, the Library’s Green Library Group are organising an Eco Wardrobe Giveaway event between Monday the 21st and Wednesday the 23rd of April in the Sir Duncan Rice Library. At our event, you can browse our diverse collection of clothes and pick up the one you like the most – it is completely free.
The theme for Earth Day 2025 is Our Power, Our Planet. With our Eco Wardrobe Giveaway, we hope to encourage you to think twice before throwing away your unwanted but still good quality and stylish clothes. Each year, the fashion industry produces over 100 billion garments and 87% of them end up in a landfill or an incinerator, with only 1% recycled. Bearing this in mind, we want you to know that it is in your power to do something for our planet: donate your clothes instead of throwing them out. Or exchange them instead of buying a new one every time when you want or need to refresh your wardrobe. It is as simple as that. And while doing it, you will help saving our planet.
AUSA has a permanent Swap Shop in the Students’ Union Building (on the Ground Floor - just down the corridor beside Subway). It is open from Monday to Friday between 9 am – 5 pm. You are welcome to drop off donations in the donation box and bins. You can also find a smaller Swap Shop at Foresterhill (at Polwarth 2.053) which is only available on Fridays between 12.30 – 2.30 pm but welcomes donations any time at its donation point.
To learn more about environmental issues related to the fashion industry and treat yourself with nice second-hand clothes, please visit the Swap Shop’s Eco Wardrobe Giveaway at the SDRL between the 21st and 23rd of April. We hope to see many of you there.
