The Aberdeen University Centre for Energy Law (AUCEL) is leading innovative multidisciplinary studies and research into how oil, mining and other mineral resources could be used better by governments, industry and others, to produce development, equity and other positive outcomes. This is in contrast to the fabled “Resource Curse” -minerals resources producing negative outcomes of poverty, poor economic growth, corruption, conflicts, stunted development and wars. The conference will present and discuss latest and innovative approaches on the subject.

The conference high point will be a special lecture by Professor John Hatchard.  He will be speaking and leading a discussion on “Addressing Resource Curse through Developing Good Governance in the Corporate Sector and tackling Bribe-payers”.  An abstract can be viewed here.

During the conference, University of Aberdeen postgraduate  students from over 20 countries will present their work and  innovative approaches to this fascinating and topical subject.

The conference is free and open to everyone.  If you would like to attend please contact Suzi Warren at smjwarren@abdn.ac.uk or +44 (0)1224 273421 to let her know.
