Internet Explorer upgrade - starting Thursday 14 January 2016

We will be upgrading to IE11 on all University-managed Windows PCs

What is happening?

On Thursday 14 January we will begin upgrading all University-managed Windows PCs and laptops with Internet Explorer 11 (IE11).

What should you do?

You do not need to do anything. IE11 will be installed in the background and will take effect on your next restart.

Points to note

  • Your homepage will automatically default to the University StaffNet page, but you can change this if you wish.

  • IT Services has tested IE11 extensively. However if you encounter any issues, please contact the Service Desk.
  • If you experience issues with any of the corporate applications (e.g. Student Records, Admissions, etc.) please first check that your bookmarks are up to date. If you still have problems, contact the Service Desk.

  • If you are running IE10 or earlier on a personal Windows PC, Microsoft will prompt you to upgrade.

Why is this happening?

Microsoft is ending all support and security updates for older versions of Internet Explorer, including IE10. The upgrade to IE11 is essential in order to keep our systems secure.

If you have any queries about the above, please contact the Service Desk.
