Interruptions to Multi Function Devices (MFDs) and Networked Printers

Interruptions to Multi Function Devices (MFDs) and Networked Printers

Interruptions to printing on MFDs and Departmental Networked Printers between 07:00-09:00 on Friday 20 August and Monday 23 August

There will be brief interruptions to printing on Multi Function Devices (MFDs) and Departmental Networked Printers between 07:00-09:00 on Friday 20 August and Monday 23 August for planned maintenance and upgrades to improve stability.

What is happening?

Pull printing will be unavailable on Friday 20 August 2010 from 07:00 to 09:00
Pull printing is when your job is queued for you and you retrieve it from a Multi Function Device by swiping your ID card in the attached card reader.

Push printing will be unavailable on Monday 23 August 2010 from 07:00 to 09:00
Push printing is when you send a job to a printer and it immediately prints. All Multi Function Devices and a number of networked departmental printers will be affected.

What should you do?

Please log off from your PC the evening before the changes, and log in or restart on the mornings of Friday 20 August and Monday 23 August. This will ensure that the printer queues are automatically re-mapped for you.

If you are not at work on these days, then please do not worry. When you return and logon to your PC, all print queues will be automatically remapped for you.

We strongly recommend that any essential printing, photocopying or scanning using the MFDs or departmental printer is done before the planned outages.

Exceptions

If you are an Apple Mac user, or you have mapped printers manually in the past, you will be affected. The automatic remapping of print queues will not be done for you. You will have to remap to the print queues yourself.
