This course will be relevant to policy and decision-makers within national and local government, leaders within businesses, people in local communities such as community councillors and those working in the third sector.

This short course will be delivered by the University of Aberdeen's Just Transition Lab . The Lab is an interdisciplinary group of researchers from the Business School, School of Engineering, School of Geosciences, School of Law, and the School of Social Sciences working on advancing impact-driven research on Just Transition. The Just Transition Lab has developed evidence-based and policy-focused assessments and solutions for delivering a just transition in both Scotland and in an international context.
Learners will gain a comprehensive introduction to the concepts of Just Transition, exploring it's historical background, theoretical foundations, and core principles. The course will examine how justice could be embedded in transitions across different places, scales, and sectors. Legal and policy frameworks, from international agreements to place-based initiatives, followed by applications to labour markets, addressing poverty and inequality, public participation and new energy technologies.
The course will conclude with case studies examining the management of the decline of oil and gas production in North East Scotland and Just Transition challenges in the Global South, including Peru and Nigeria.

This online course, delivered via the MyAberdeen platform, can be completed at your own pace. Most learners take around 8 weeks to complete. You will access online lectures and a range of reading materials.
Upon registration, learners will be sent joining instructions detailing how to get set-up on the MyAberdeen learning platform. Please allow upto 3 working days for enrolments to be processed.
Live sessions are held regularly throughout with year with the academic team. We will contract you with available dates after your enrolment.
Limited fee waiver places are available for Aberdeen City Residents and are offered on a first-come first-serve basis, ranging from full-fee waivers (100% subsidised) to 50% reductions. Apply within to find out more. Please note that proof of address will be required for a fee waiver place.
