The Law School EDI Committee with support from the Centre for Constitutional and Public International Law and the Education Committee has organised a guest lecture by Dr Alexander Maine (City St George's, University of London) on the UK Supreme Court judgment in For Women Scotland. The event is part of a wider effort by the School to bring in different perspectives on this important case.
The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 1 October from 13-14:30 in KCG7.
Abstract
Dr Maine will discuss the judgment handed down by the Supreme Court in the For Women Scotland case, in which the court was tasked with defining the term ‘woman’, ‘man’, and ‘sex’ for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010. He will discuss the reasoning given in the decision and provide some context, while also discussing the wider implications of the case and its legal, political, and constitutional significance in the matters of trans persons’ rights.
